  • Personality:

T'Kang is a Klingon warrior and a bitter one at best. He has been described as sullen and brooding at times. He seems to take pleasure in nothing and has no sense of humor. This naturally makes T'Kang the focal point of everyone's jokes. T'Kang looks at this sort of treatment as yet another of life's burdens that he so undeservedly must bare.

    Background Information:

T'Kang went through a lot to get this way. Born and raised in the Klingon Empire to a once influential and wealthy house, The house of Crass, T'Kang's childhood was very typical. When he grew older, he learned the ways of the warrior. However before the age of dissension, the House of Crass fell to political pressures and feuding with a rival house. The House of Crass became no more. In an attempt to save T'Kang, he was sent out of the Empire to seek refuge in the Federation.

Knowing that his family honor had been destroyed, that all of the Crass holdings and land had been plundered or stolen and that his family was dead or in servitude weighed heavily on young T'Kang. The way that the Federation humans treated him didn't help matters either. Always the outsider. The one that was different, T'Kang found it difficult to make any friends. Still he did well in his studies, enjoyed reading and excelled at anything remotely related to physical sports.

When T'Kang became old enough, he applied to attend Starfleet Academy. His exposure to the Klingon Empire in his youth and the stories his deceased Father used to tell him of great battles won in space had found a place in his heart. He wished to find a position on such a free spirited vessel so he studies hard and learned all there was to know about space travel and navigating the stars.

Unfortunately T'Kang's less than social behavior didn't help his application to the Academy. Three consecutive times he failed to be admitted, not from a lack of scholastic test scores but from the results of the oral examinations. T'Kang was declared as an unsuitable Starfleet candidate by many of those that reviewed his application.

By some mysterious stroke of luck, (which T'Kang is now convinced was actually a curse) his application was finally accepted to Starfleet. His four years there went quickly and the Klingon warrior found there were parts of the training he enjoyed very much. The discipline and honor for one. However there were other parts he didn't take to. He did manage to graduate, even with the social difficulties his proud Klingon heritage presented.

T'Kang's first assignment upon graduation was to the USS Akula, an advanced Defiant class warship. The Klingon was proud to be allowed to serve on such an honorable ship, but soon discovered that he was not in fact serving on it but enslaved much like the surviving members of the House of Crass were in the Klingon Empire... forced into a life of mandatory servitude. The only difference was that here, in the Federation they used the term "forced conscription" for the Special Operations nature of the Black Ops starship.

Life aboard the Akula was not what T'Kang had anticipated. He found it difficult to get along and follow the orders of his fellow crew members that, in his mind, were all a bunch of soft, incompetent humans. Needless to say, the crude Klingon was not well liked and had no friends to speak of. After serving on the Akula for several months, T'Kang couldn't take the slow pace and lack of command structure on that vessel. He put in for a transfer with Starfleet Command, which was quickly approved by the CO of the Akula who had no love for T'Kang whom he often referred to as "The Barbarian".

T'Kang's second assignment was to the USS Intrepid where he served as the Assistant Engineer of the starship under Fleet Captain Evelyn Hawke. T'Kang was hopeful that the Intrepid would prove to be a much more lively and active assignment than the Ensign's first assignment to the Akula. Things seldom work out easy for the warrior however. At first the Intrepid was a tightly run ship. Under Captain Hawke's capable command, the ship seemed to have an almost Klingon discipline to it. That soon changed after Captain Hawke left the ship for a new assignment, making Lieutenant Commander Edward Oliver Celchu the new commanding officer of the ship. Under Celchu's command, things were not as smooth as under Captain Hawke. As always seemed to be the case, T'Kang once again found himself colliding with his fellow crew members over his brash personality, rude behavior and seeming disrespect for authority.

Much to T'Kang's surprise, and likely to Lieutenant Commander Celchu as well, the Klingon Engineer received a promotion to Chief Engineering Officer when Lieutenant Hannoyh, the ship's temperamental Hermat CEO, became pregnant and resigned hish commission to Starfleet. The decision to make T'Kang the new Chief Engineer must have been a hard one for Celchu to make. But it was absolutely untollerable to the officers in Medical. Of who Doctor Desmond had a particular dislike for T'Kang because of his "barbaric behavior", his frequent altercations with Starfleet crew members, and his total disrespect for his authority as Chief Medical Officer on board the USS Intrepid. To say these two officers had 'butted heads' would be an injustice.

On 9903.1 T'Kang received a promotion to Lieutenant junior grade by Lieutenant Commander Celchu after the Chief Engineer was instrumental in repairing several planetary power generators on Frainar III while suffering from radiation sickness from an earlier exposure where the Chief Engineer saved planet from being destroyed. The Klingon was proud to receive recognition for his efforts.

On 9904.29 after the USS Intrepid completed a mission to escort a Mugarri Ambassador to earth in which five attacking Nharwak vessels tried to stop them, T'Kang requested and was granted a transfer to the USS Tempest as an Assistant Tactical Officer. T'Kang, still upset at the loss of three Starfleet officers, including the Intrepid's XO while attempting a rescue operation on one of the Nharwak vessels, decided that a change of assignment was in order. His time on board the Intrepid was valued, as he learned a lot about working with people and running an engineering department, however too many people had come and gone, through reassignments or death since the Klingon first stepped on board. Commodore Taddy Jonathan Mitchell was receptive of utilizing T'Kang's talents to help bolster the Tempest's Tactical department.

T'Kang enjoyed his position as Departmental Chief on board the Intrepid, but he is still convinced his family is somehow cursed to endure continuing misery until he finally makes it to Sto'Vo'Kor. T'Kang is optimistic that the Tempest will prove to be a better assignment than his last two postings. Commodore Taddy Jonathan Mitchell is an experienced and respected commanding officer in Starfleet. T'Kang hopes that the Commodore's leadership will make a difference in what he views as an otherwise miserable Starfleet career for himself.

On 9905.17 Commodore Taddy Jonathan Mitchell gave T'Kang a field promotion to Chief Tactical Officer on board the USS Tempest. The Commodore saw the Klingon Warrior's experience and talent as being just what was needed to whip the Tempest's tactical department back into shape. T'Kang was proud to accept.

On 9908.8, T'Kang received a promotion to Full Lieutenant from Acting Captain Lieutenant Commander Scott Lee.

On 9908.31 events on board the USS Tempest made T'Kang question the leadership abilities of acting Captain, Lieutenant Commander Scott Lee. Lee's orders to the crew of the Tempest to join a group of "renegades" to fight the rest of Starfleet Command over recent decisions and actions the upper brass had made did not sit well with the proud warrior. In effect the CO was asking that the crew follow his orders while Lee, followed no one's orders but his own. This "Insurrection" tugged at the Klingon's sense of duty, honor and loyalty. Rather than follow Lee's orders to violate Starfleet Command's orders and attack the very fleet he'd swore an oath to protect, T'Kang turned in his resignation from Starfleet. The whole turn of events left T'Kang angry with UCIP and Starfleet Command.

On 9909.9, T'Kang returned to the Klingon Empire, where he joined the Klingon Defense Force. He was given the rank of Sogh and stationed to the IKV Jachyoj as Weapons Officer under HoD K'sara. The Jachyoj, a Klingon Bird of Prey, was to be permanently posted at the newly discovered Alien space station D'Alaan 27, located on the outer most rim of the Klingon Empire. There Klingon and Federation Starfleet officers are posted to study and discover the secrets of the station's unique origins and the aliens that created it.

On 9909.23, T'Kang was promoted to First Officer of the IKV Jachyoj by General Pi'ror upon learning that Ra'wI Kruge, the Jachuoj's original First Officer, had been poisoned. That was when T'Kang was first informed that HoD K'sara was no longer in command of the Jachyoj and that his new commanding officer would be the young, Aram, bastard son of DuraS.

On 9912.13, after the unfortunate destruction of station D'Alaan 27, T'Kang and the IKV Jachyoj returned to Qo'nos for reassignment. HoD Aram was removed as captain of the Jachyoj and given the larger, Q'Vort class bird of prey, IKC ro'QeH to command. Aram was asked to move his surviving crew to the new larger vessel and set course for the mIch nItlhral, a sector of Klingon space where both the boarders of the Romulan Star Empire and the Breen Sovereign Territories met the Klingon Empire. Their orders are to report to botlhlan yaH, or midway station, where they are to be assigned to boarder patrol of the mIch nItlhral and honor guard to dignitaries that visit lanjep. The planet which botlhlan yaH orbits.

Currently, T'Kang doesn't know who to trust and who not to... which only adds to his embitterment with the universe.

    Notes/Traits:

"A crude barbarian" truly does best describe T'Kang to a tee. The Klingon has no manners to speak of. He thinks nothing of speaking his mind, expelling bodily gasses, and questioning tactics or orders. His embitterment with the universe becomes apparent when one talks with the Klingon who tends to always look at the glass as being 'half empty'. "Gloom and doom" are the norm for T'Kang.

In spite of T'Kang's lack of social graces and his predictably sour demeanor, he is a competent officer that gets the job done.

T'Kang has no respect for Doctor Matthew Desmond, the Chief Surgeon on board the Intrepid. The Klingon views him as "an incompetent fool" not worthy of serving in the position he presently holds.

Special Comments for the eyes of Academy Commandant and Commodore Mitchell:
"The Lieutenent made examplary well in the test, making him one of the most successful trainees I have had in my academy service. Some of the answers are going to be my template answers from now on and if someday I am going to lend over the course, my first candidate is going to be Mr. T'Kang." - Professor Erdem - Starfleet Academy

When writing T'Kang into your stories, think of the Snow White & the Seven Dwarves character, Grumpy in a Klingon body. Then you can't go wrong.
