"A no nonsense position" by Ensign T'Kang Assistant Engineer - USS Intrepid << This takes place just prior to Lieutenant (j.g) Cadan's story. >> T'Kang finished assembling the three pattern enhancers and aligning them in a triangle on the surface of the planet. Activating them, he verified they were in working order and had sufficient strength to send the away team home to the USS Intrepid. Glancing over to the jungle where Beldin, Calenzie and the others went, T'Kang let out a curse in Klingoneese. "They should have been back by now." he hissed. Almost as if on que, Captain Celchu sent a hail from the USS Intrepid utilizing the tachion beacon T'Kang had set up along with the pattern enhancers. Celchu > +Comm+ Okay T'Kang, we have your signal. Have everyone stand by to beam up. T'Kang > +Comm+ ::Fidgeting slightly:: I can not do that. Lieutenant Commander Beldin and the others have not returned yet. Celchu > +Comm+ ::Angrily:: Not returned! I gave you orders to get everyone out of there T'Kang. How could you let them go like that? T'Kang > +Comm+ I was out voted and over ruled by the `Commander. They gave their word they would be back by the time I assembled the pattern enhancers. I'm sorry sir. Celchu > +Comm+ I don't have time for sorry Ensign. The planet has less than an hour left before the Doctor's device destroys the planet and the USS April needs us now. Go find them and bring them back kicking and screaming if you have to. Celchu out! T'Kang's expression set stubbornly. He knew he shouldn't have let the crew go back for the others. Now he'd managed to get on the Captain's bad side and could possibly loose the entire away team because of his own "compassion" for the warrior's code. Setting his jaw, the Klingon checked his hand phaser, adjusting the setting to the double red bar, "no nonsense" position. He was a Klingon with a purpose. He would find the away team and see to it that they came home. Marching off following their tracks, T'Kang used his Klingon sense of smell to track them. He was amazed to discover they hadn't even made it to the Doctor's complex yet. "Where have you been?!" T'Kang bellowed as he marched out into the clearing where Lieutenant Commander Beldin, Nal and the others were standing. Apparently lost in the jungle. Beldin and Nal both turned, pointing their weapons at T'Kang, but quickly realizing it was their own sour demeanored Engineer from the Intrepid and not Romulan troops. "We are looking for the secret entrance to the Doctor's complex. It has to be around here somewhere." Lieutenant Calenzie explained in a quiet voice. "The pattern enhancers are all set up. Captain Celchu wants us all to beam up now. Your time is up." T'Kang barked back. "We are not leaving without the others T'Kang. You can help us, or you can stand here yelling at the wind for all I care, but until we find the rest of our party, we ain't abandoning no one!" Lieutenant Commander Beldin explained in an authoritative tone. T'Kang's expression tightened as he growled from his gut. Arguing with Beldin over something that, in the Klingon's heart, he knew was right, was pointless. It was true T'Kang was torn between following the Captain's orders and his warrior's instincts. But there *was* still time before the planet exploded. And at warp nine, the Intrepid could still reach the USS April in plenty of time. "I believe I caught a whiff of something in this direction." T'Kang pointed. "I nearly headed that way before I caught on to your scent." Beldin glanced at the Klingon for a long second and then nodded. "This way it is then." The Lieutenant Commander then marched out, leading the way. T'Kang stood there while the others walked past, until Nal came by and placed a hand on the Klingon's shoulder. "Glad you could make it buddy." Lieutenant Calenzie smiled, "So you tracked us down by scent. I bet that was hard to do." "Not at all." T'Kang said evenly, "After spending that time practicing Bat'leth with you in the gymnasium, I would recognize your rancid after shave from ten kilometers away." Nal grinned and just shook his head while keeping up with Beldin and the others. It wasn't long before they found the Doctor's secret base. "There! The structure is just straight ahead!" Lt. Nal Calenzie shouted excitedly as he pointed forward towards the faint outline of a large rectangular building. << Continue with Lieutenant (j.g) Camelia Cadan most excellent story >>
