"Engaging MVA Mode" by Ensign T'Kang Chief Engineer - USS Intrepid The subspace fields had done the trick in allowing the USS Intrepid to get through the asteroid field and deflect all of the debris from the leading four starships. Once they had flown out into the clear, the USS Cortez had ordered the fleet into attack pattern delta. Immediately the task force had sensor contact with the waiting enemy ships of the Panther fleet. An Akira class and four Defiants. For once T'Kang was glad Starfleet Intelligence didn't suck this time around. Lieutenant Commander Celchu had reassumed command of the Intrepid. T'Kang was glad, not so much out of a lack of faith in XO Davis' abilities. Indeed, were it not for Davis, the Klingon likely would not have survived on Frainar. However the scuttle butt on board the starship had mentioned that Davis had already suffered a serious defeat at the hands of the Panther's once before. In fact, they had killed him, and were it not for the mysterious powers of what the Klingon referred to as `green goo' the Intrepid's first officer would still be in the grips of Sto'Vo'Kor. One does not easily get over being killed at the hands of an enemy. Right or wrong, T'Kang would be lying were he to say he wasn't more comfortable having the ship's command, and fate, in Celchu's hands rather than Davis. +Comm+ "Celchu to all Hands. MVAM will be engaged in 2 minutes. Report to your vectors immediately" The Captain's voice echoed through the Main Engineering deck. T'Kang pulled his frown upwards into a simile of a smile. This was what he and Salek had been readying the ship for. From the full diagnostics on the MVA system, to the visual inspections of the release clamps, Engineering had their act together hours earlier. Salek was stationed on the bridge of the Intrepid and would be manning the Engineering station there for Vector 1 along with the Captain. T'Kang knew it was unusual to assign a Cadet to such a prestigious position under such extraordinary circumstances, however the Vulcan had proven that his knowledge and efficiency with the Prometheus-X class starship and Multi-Vector Assault Mode made him the candidate of choice for the assignment. T'Kang would be sticking with the Engineering section of the Intrepid, also known as Vector 3, in order to man the Engineering department of the powerhouse of the three vectors. Vector 1 was the nimblest of the three independent assault ships as well as the smallest. Vector 2, which consisted of the lower half of the saucer section, had more fire power and mass than vector 2 while remaining highly maneuverable at the same time compared to the lower stardrive section of Vector 3, which without a doubt was the most powerful of the three sections, having the primary warp core powering it's systems, but at the cost of low speed maneuverability and responsiveness. But for what the third Vector lacked in grace, she more than made up for in shields and weaponry. In a way, a perfect reflection of the Klingon Chief Engineer himself. A short time later, everyone had reported to their stations. +Comm+ "Sound off, MVAM readiness state." Celchu finally called out. +Comm+ "Vector 1 standing by." Cadet Salek responded from the Bridge in his cool, Vulcan tone. +Comm+ "Vector 2 standing by." Ensign Hartly replied from the battle bridge on deck 5. Activating the channel on the master situation monitor in Main Engineering, T'Kang replied, "Vector 3 standing by." The Klingon officer licked his lips in anticipation of the word being given. +Comm+ "Activate MVA Mode." Celchu ordered. Tapping the controls on the engineering console, the dozens of latches throughout the vessel activated allowing the separate Vectors of the ship to disengage from each other and splinter off as separate starships. The top Vector, Vector 1 under Celchu's command climbed upward. The concealed impulse and twin warp nacelles folding down and locking themselves into position as the Vector's engines activate under Cadet Salek's control. The lower section of the saucer continued dead ahead, the once hidden battle bridge on deck 5, now visible at the top of that Vector's hull. Finally, the lower engineering section of the USS Intrepid, commonly referred to as the stardrive section descended slightly, taking with it two of the four visible warp nacelles and the bulky lower decks of the starship. Of the three Vectors of the Prometheus-X class starship, Vector 3 was the "ugly duckling" of the lot, but that didn't bother Ensign T'Kang in the least. Being the Chief Engineer of the vessel, he knew that for all of it's lacking of visual appeal, Vector 3 was the power house of the three pronged attack mode. Her shields were the strongest and her weapons the most potent. She wasn't pretty to look at, but that was not her function. She was meant to punch through and give the other, more nimble Vectors a chance to attack the enemy. "Multi-Vector Assault Mode initiated Captain." T'Kang declared over sub-space. "Let's go kick ourselves some Panther butt."
