"Yes, I guess that will do the trick all right" by Lieutenant jg T'Kang Chief Engineer - USS Intrepid http://come.to/tkang Intrepid. - adj. fearless, undaunted. If only the five Nharwek enemy vessels had realized the tenacity of the starship's name, they may have brought more reinforcements into the fight. The genetically altered freaks created and cast off by Starfleet Command had expected Captain Celchu to simply surrender to their demands faced with 5 to 1 odds and a hostage, Chief Science Officer Camelia Cadan, in their possession. After all, all they wanted was one Mugarri Ambassador that had been anything but honest with the crew since they agreed to transport her to the conference on Earth. Celchu wasn't one to be intimidated. His eyes narrowed at the thought of negotiating with these genetically enhanced terrorists and his jaw hardened when he made his decision. The decision to fight, and take back that which was taken from us. T'Kang had been assigned as one of the five away team members to board the Nharwek vessel to attempt and retrieve Lieutenant Cadan. The Nharwek vessels were sleek looking ships with a shinny metallic blue hull and twin large, flattened warp nacelles straddling the main body of the ship. There were two main 360 degree phaser arrays mounted on the crown and belly of the ships, offering their vessels formidable firepower in addition to the fore and aft torpedo launchers. The Klingon was looking forward at seeing the inside of the Nharwek ships. But he never let sight of the mission; retrieving Lieutenant Camelia Cadan, get out of his mind. T'Kang met with the rest of the away team in the transporter room. He'd brought a hand phaser, a mek'leth, and a phaser rifle on the mission. Keeping the phaser and mek'leth stowed in his belt, T'Kang adjusted the phaser rifle for heavy stun before Lieutenant Commander Davis, Beldin, Trissana and Kyrtna beamed over to the lead vessel. After a brief survey of the area, Davis ordered that T'Kang and Beldin head for Engineering to cause a distraction and try to seize control of the ship, or at least cause them problems enough to aid the Intrepid that was still looking at taking on five equally matched ships in combat. When the First officer started speaking of using the wonder gel to help them tap into the Nharwek's computer systems the Klingon just shook his head. It seemed that beyond relying on a slime green pile of goo, Davis was incapable of anything else. The Klingon was just as glad to be going elsewhere away from the silly putty fanatic. But he still didn't see how pouring goo into the Nharwek's systems or causing problems in Engineering was going to help in retrieving Camelia. She'd likely be in a detention cell somewhere. Not the science labs or engineering. With a grumpy grunt of an "Aye sir." T'Kang accepted his assignment. He and Beldin turned to find engineering. There wasn't a lot of talking as the two officers made their way through the Nharwek ship. T'Kang was proceeding cautiously, using his ears and sense of scent to scan the area. "Look out!" Beldin shouted as a pair of Nharwek rounded the corner ahead. T'Kang and Beldin each took to opposite sides of the corridor, scrunching down and firing their phasers at the enemy. Genetically enhanced or not, both Nharwek soldiers fell just the same. "Thanks." T'Kang mumbled to Beldin. "I would think Engineering must be this way. . . ." The two officers continued prowling through the Nharwek vessel. While approaching engineering, Beldin got a strange feeling. "I think Ktryna is sensing for me." The Klingon glanced at Beldin and just shook his head. Between Davis' green slime and the rest of the crew's telepathy, T'Kang wondered what the heck he was doing on board the Intrepid. "Stand ready." he grumbled, "There are likely several Nharwek beyond this door." Beldin got into position, adjusting his grip on the phaser riffle before giving T'Kang a nod that he was ready. The Chief engineer activated the door and both officers rushed inside. The Nharwek crew members inside immediately reacted, some reaching for weapons, while other scattered. "Ops! Ops! We have intruders in engineering!" one of the Nharwek yelled to the ship's internal communications system while scrambling to get a weapon. T'Kang dropped to a knee and opened fire. As quickly as he could find a target he pulled the trigger. Over his shoulder he could hear the pulses discharging from Beldin's phaser as well. Inside of ten seconds, the two officers had managed to stun ever one of the dozen Nharwek in Engineering. "That was surprisingly easy." Beldin commented in an even tone while still holding the phaser riffle up and peering through the sight. Both officers stood there for a moment as T'Kang listened. Finally the Klingon moved. "I will seal the door. The Nharwek will be sending reinforcements." "I'll see if I can locate Camelia with the ship's internal sensors. That is if I can figure these controls out that the Nharwek use." Beldin explained moving to one of the control consoles. While Beldin scanned for Cadan, T'Kang examined the Nharwek vessel's master schematic diagram and deck layout displays. "I should be able to raise a force field to keep the Nharwek out of here. It should just be a matter of. There!" A shimmering red force field formed around all entrances to the Nharwek engineering room. T'Kang swelled with pride momentarily as he looked back to Beldin. "I found her. She's three decks down in a holding cell." "Are you certain?" T'Kang questioned. "How many other Trills do you expect are on board Lieutenant?" Beldin replied with a hint of sarcasm. T'Kang pressed his lips together and was going to reply when the entire ship rocked violently. The Klingon had to gram the console with his hand to stay on his feet. "The Intrepid must be attacking." Glancing around, he could see that the force fields he had just raised had all disappeared. "Oh god!" Beldin exclaimed touching an index finger to his temple, "Something terrible has happened. . . ." T'Kang glanced over to Beldin expectantly. The Klingon's body language was a dead give away that he wanted Beldin to elaborate. "I'm not detecting Davis, Kyrtna or the others. . . . Not even the gel. Something has happened to them Lieutenant. . . ." T'Kang tapped his comm badge. "T'Kang to Davis come in." A moment of silence passes before the Klingon adds impatiently, "T'Kang to Trissana report." More silence. "T'Kang to any away team member, report!" "They are gone." Beldin said in a shocked tone, now touching two fingers to his temple as if straining to sense something further. "I can't reach any of them." "Damn!" The Klingon swore while spinning around with his hands perched on his hips in frustration. Reaching over, he picked up his phaser riffle and adjusted it's setting. "We will have to try and reach Lieutenant Cadan ourselves then. I will set the controls of this vessel to initiate a warp core breach in fifteen minutes. That should take this ship out of the battle at least, while giving us time to get Camelia out. Give me a moment to set it up." T'Kang moved to the controls and started tapping them rapidly, reprogramming the new commands into the Nharwek vessel's systems. Beldin watched. "You certainly learned the Nharwek interface quickly Lieutenant." he commented. T'Kang let out a grunt. "A skill learned on my last assignment on the Akula." The Klingon continued his tapping. "There. It is set. Fifteen minutes from now this vessel goes KABOOM!" "Won't the Nharwek be able to see what you've done and deactivate it in that amount of time Lieutenant?" Beldin asked. T'Kang just gave Beldin a dead pan look as he thought about it, before turning and using his phaser rifle to blast the engineering consoles to pieces. "I don't think so." he replied in an even, serious tone. Beldin, a bit shocked at the sudden phaser fire looked at the sparking, smoking, smoldering user interface to the computer control systems that regulate the warp core reactor before nodding. "Yes, I guess that will do the trick all right." "Come on. Let's go find Cadan and get the hell out of here. The clock is running." T'Kang stated as he and Beldin moved to the nearest jefferies tubes to begin their descent to the holding cells where Cadan was being held three decks below. ******** OOC: take it away Beldin, 15 minutes until this Nharwek ships goes up in a ball of plasma. :)
